Something to Celebrate
In July, the Co+op Board hired Sierra Hirtzel as our new General Manager. Sierra has valiantly served the Co+op as Interim General Manager since September of last year. Through her stalwart leadership, the Co+op pioneered new methods for purchasing budgets, marketing, and departmental tracking—which is exciting news in the grocery world! She’s also reinvigorated the Co+op’s commitment to a living wage for all staff. Before becoming Interim General Manager, Sierra was the Co+op’s Store Manager. In all, Sierra boasts an impressive fourteen years of experience in retail grocery and restaurants. The Board is thrilled to have Sierra take the helm of this great ship. Congratulations, Sierra!
The hiring process was extensive, garnering applications from across the United States. In the end, the hiring committee identified two stellar finalists, both from the MVM Co+op! The selection process included two rounds of interviews and staff presentations on each candidate’s six-month plan. The Board is excited to see what Sierra has in store for our Co+op.
Co+op Block Party
On August 6, the Co+op closed out the summer with a rockin’ block party. The staff worked incredibly hard to make this event a success through months of planning, coordinating logistics, and sprucing up the store.
Your MVM Co+op hosts a good party. The smell of freshly roasted green chile wafted through the air as the Co+op served up street tacos in the parking lot and laid back, old time tunes from Los Cacahuates set the scene for a final summer hurrah. Inside, High Desert served up local draft beer and New Mexico vendors provided tasty treats. Customers enjoyed fresh raw milk and yogurt from De Smet Dairy and Salsa Patria served up salsa with a nice kick. Other samples were scattered throughout the store, including pineberry smoothies from the Co+op Kitchen, five different flavors of Beanitos, and startlingly scrumptious coconut ash and banana chocolates. Most excitingly, everything in the Co+op was 15% off!
By the end of the day, the shelves were empty, our tummies were full, and many of us were sporting our very own Co+op block party t-shirts. If you’re still reveling in the memories, or if you wish you’d been there, t-shirts are still on sale at the Co+op. Thanks again to the staff for making this a true celebration of summer, and to the Co+op community for the great company.
